Where English Is Used

English is the language used universally across the world. You read English, you speak in English and you write in English. This is the fundamental skill for interacting with others.
You use English everyday. In conversations, talking on the phone, surfing the internet or even just reading, which allows you to build your composition skills to the next level. Just avoid reading text from people who are unfamiliar to English.

Reading books are examples of studying English Literature.

English Texts

There are four types of English Literature: drama, fictional stories, nonfictional stories and poetry.
Drama is where people use their abilities to act to create scenes through action, speech and expression. Alternatively, plays and tableaus help introducing creativity. This type of English Literature is strongly associated by the famous playwright: William Shakespeare.
Fictional stories allows us to imagine the places that are unbelieved or unreal. Fantasy novels work as a perfect example of this type of English Literature.
Nonfictional stories uses heavily on reality-based information. This persuades the viewer's perspective to pretend if they were to experience this.
Poetry is a type of English Literature using special structure forms of English writing called verses. They contain an abundance of metaphoric meanings to enhance the figurative language.

English is the universal language that is known for understanding the meanings behind English text.
Analyzing text helps us make connections.
English can be used to express the mood and the tone of a piece of speech.

English was invented as a competitor for the Latin-speaking countries. It first began with the "Old English" style where most words had the archaic vibes. Later in the 1350's, it became popularly influenced by the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. It shaped how England was supposed to be.
The 1800's introduced the French-speaking people into the English culture where French words became valid in the English dictionaries.

English continues to evolve today with complex and rich vocabulary being used. As it is growing popularity, many countries including China begins to learn English as a mandatory language skill.

These are examples of essential basic English Literature skills.

For students to succeed in English Literary Studies, they will need to know how to read, interpret and analyze text in different types of text.
Texts include but not only limited to short stories, novels, articles and poems.
Other skills that students are required to learn is the composition.
The composition involves several subskills which are speaking comprehension, listening comprehension, reading comprehension and writing comprehension.
Acting skills are also required if the teacher is able to teach drama.

Students will be evaluated by the teacher's expectations.
They can include the main skills of English Literature Studies or the units that are discussed in a course outline.
The grading system may depend on assessments which are a mixture of quizzes, tests, exams, projects, assignments, homework or in-class work.
Contributions to in-class participation can help students obtain a better grade.

English Literary Studies focuses on understanding basic English Literature skills and how you can use them to apply them to the next level.
This aims to improve people's skills whose primary language is not English.
